Research Activities

Mousavi''s current research focuses on fiber-based optical techniques to develop and optimize neuro-sensors. She is also interested in thermal and optical properties of magnetic nanoparticles (ferrofluids in their colloidal form) with a focus on the integration of their biomedical applications and bio-sensing.

In-field behavior of ferrofluids such as development of field-assisted microstructures and their influence on thermophysical and optical properties of ferrofluids, reversibility of the assemblies, and laboratory measurements of thermal properties of in-field ferrofluids are of interest. She mastered in Electron Microscopy (EM) and cryogenic transmission electron microscopy (Cryo-TEM) and is interested in their application in facilitating in-situ observation of micro/nano-structures.

Mousavi holds a PhD and MS in Mechanical Engineering-majoring in Heat Transfer, minoring in Fluid Mechanics, NanoScience and Electron Microscopy-from NYU-Poly (now NYU Tandon School of Engineering); and a BS in Mechanical Engineering-Thermal and Fluid- from Tehran University.

Prior to joining IPM, Mousavi was a visiting assistant professor, held an adjunct faculty position at the ME Department of NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering, and was postdoctoral research scientist at NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering.
