Weekly Seminar on The Dual Superconductor Picture for Confinement; Gauge Field Decomposition Method

Abstract: The dual superconductivity is considered as a mechanism for describing quark confinement. The existence of magnetic monopoles and their condensation are unavoidable in this picture. One way to extract magnetic monopole degrees of freedom in non-Abelian theories is gauge field decomposition. We use Cho decomposition for SU(2) gauge theory to describe the infrared regime including quark confinement. Cho decomposition restricts the theory to a self-consistent subset of a non-Abelian SU(2) gauge theory. We apply Zwanziger formalism to Cho decomposition to obtain a local Lagrangian depending on two electric and magnetic gauge fields. Based on this local Lagrangian the propagator and then the potential between a static quark-antiquark pair are calculated.
