Constraints on Dark Matter from Earth's Heat Flow

Dr. Yasaman Farzan from IPM

Abstract: If the cross section of the scattering of the dark matter particles off the nuclei is large, dark matter particles can be captured by earth. Their subsequent annihilation can give rise to a heat flow from the center of the Earth. In this talk, which is based on the recent paper with address Mack et al, astro-ph/0705.4298, we discuss the bounds that can be derived by this consideration.
