CLIC Drive Beam RF structures design

 Abstract: CLIC (Compact LInear Collider) is a future accelerator project. Inside CLIC, electron and positron beams will collide at 3 TeV central mass energy. The RF power source of CLIC main accelerator is produced by the CLIC Drive Beam complex instead of klystrons. This lecture is about the RF structure design of the CLIC Drive Beam injector. Inside the injector the electrons are bunched and accelerated up to about 53 MeV. In this lecture will be focused more on Sub Harmonic Bunchers (SHBs) design that has 499.75 MHZ resonant frequency. The main challenge for the design of SHBs structure and their RF power sources is the fast phase switching capability (about 10 ns). It will be shown that a backward traveling wave structure is the best choice for SHBs.
